Are you experiencing joint pain that’s affecting your daily activities? Our team at South Dublin Podiatry uses Ostenil joint injections as part of treatment for symptoms of osteoarthritic joint pains specifically in the feet, knees and ankles.
Ostenil injections contain a substance called hyaluronic acid, which is naturally present in our joints. This acid acts like a lubricant and shock absorber, helping to keep our joints moving smoothly. Think of it like WD40 for the joints. However, as we age, the amount of hyaluronic acid in our joints decreases, leading to joint pain and stiffness.Â
When Ostenil is injected into the joint space, it helps to replenish the hyaluronic acid levels, decreasing pain and stiffness and improving other symptoms of osteoarthritis so you can enjoy a more active and pain-free lifestyle.
There are a number of ways to reduce osteoarthritic joint pains and in order to receive Ostenil joint injection, you will need to book in for a Biomechanical Examination to ensure that this is the right treatment option for you.Â
If you decide to have treatment with Ostenil, it will be injected directly into the joint affected by osteoarthritis. Depending on the joint, this may be done as a once off injection or a course of 3 – 5 injections. You may not notice any benefit immediately after your injection, but will gradually experience a reduction in pain and stiffness.Â
The improvement in your symptoms is likely to persist for several months, depending on the progression of the degenerative change in the joint being treated. When effects of your Ostenil injection begin to wear off, you can safely choose to have another injection if your clinician agrees it is appropriate. Thereafter, you can continue with Ostenil therapy whenever necessary.
